Betul: A tragic accident took place in WCL’s Chhatarpur-1 coal mine in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. Many workers were buried under the debris due to sudden collapse of a slab in the mine, out of which three men, including a supervisor, were killed. Two of the deceased were locals, while the third person was from Kawardha in neighboring Chhattisgarh. His family is being contacted, the official said. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. According to locals, the roof collapsed around 3 pm.
Rescue operation was started immediately after the accident. SDRF, police and relief teams reached the spot and are engaged in rescue work.
Betul SP Nischal Jharia has confirmed the incident and is monitoring the situation by reaching the spot himself. The administration has not yet clearly disclosed the cause of the accident, but according to initial information, this accident happened due to the collapse of a large rock in the mine. At present, relief and rescue work is going on and efforts are being made to rescue the workers trapped in the debris.
