Aizawl, Dec 5 (UNI) Taking moral responsiblity for the Mizo National Front’s electoral debable where where the party’s seat count plummeted from 28 to 10, outgoing Chief Minister of Mizoram Zoramthanga submitted his resignation as Chief of the MNF party on Tuesday.
Zoramthanga, 79, who himself lost his Aizawl East-I seat, submitted his resignation letter to Senior Vice President of the party Tawnluia.
In his resignation letter, Zoramthanga said that he felt morally responsible for the defeat of the party being chief of the MNF.
“I felt that it is my duty to submit my resignation as president of the MNF and I expect that my resignation is accepted,” the letter said.
Tawnluia said that the resignation of Zoramthanga as president of the MNF will be deliberated at the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) and National Core Committee (NCC) of the party to be held on Wednesday at ‘Hnam Run’ the office of the MNF party in Aizawl.
This is the first time Zoramthanga has ever submitted a written resignation letter owning moral responsibility for the party’s defeat though the party had been defeated a number of times in the past – in 1989, 1993, 2008, and 2013.
Zoramthanga, a close aide of the erstwhile underground MNF supremo Laldenga became the party president after Laldenga’s demise on July 7, 1990, the post he held till date. In 1997,the present Chief Minister designate (Lalduhoma) almost replaced him as MNF president in the organisational elections.
