Clean tap water reaches every household in Nepanagar

  • MP Urban Development Company’s project benefits over 35,000 residents

Bhopal: Nepanagar, a town in Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh, is now receiving clean tap water in every household, thanks to a major water supply project executed by the MP Urban Development Company, under the Department of Urban Development and Housing. Supported by the Asian Development Bank, the total cost of this ambitious project is approximately Rs 36 crore, which also includes operation and maintenance for the next ten years.

The project draws water from the Tapti River, which is then treated at a water purification plant with a capacity of 7.7 million litres per day (MLD). To ensure consistent water storage and supply, two overhead tanks—of 150 kilolitres and 160 kilolitres capacity—have been constructed, along with a 1900 kilolitre capacity ground-level storage reservoir.

Risk of waterborne diseases reduced

More than 35,000 residents of Nepanagar are directly benefiting from this initiative. With tap connections now reaching every home, the availability of clean water has significantly improved living conditions and reduced the risk of waterborne diseases.

Local citizens have expressed their satisfaction. Hemant Patil from Ward No. 22 shared, “We are getting sufficient water through this scheme, and the risk of diseases has come down.” Bhaskar Pawar of Ward No. 23 added, “The tap water facility is saving time and making daily life much easier.”

This initiative marks a significant stride not only in urban infrastructure but also in advancing the goals of sustainable development.
