CLAT 2026 paper leak allegations: Supreme Court moved seeking court-monitored probe

New Delhi, Jan 6 (UNI) A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court alleging leakage of the question paper and answer key of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026, conducted on December 7, and seeking a court-monitored, time-bound investigation into the matter.

The plea contends that the alleged leak compromised the fairness and integrity of the national-level entrance examination for admissions to National Law Universities (NLUs) across the country.

It claims that the question paper and answers were circulated prior to the commencement of the examination, thereby giving certain candidates an unfair advantage.

Filed by a group of CLAT aspirants belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and other disadvantaged sections, the petition asserts that such irregularities have a disproportionate impact on students from marginalised backgrounds, who already face structural barriers in accessing legal education.

The petitioners have urged the top court to direct an independent inquiry by a specialised agency under the supervision of the Supreme Court to ascertain the veracity of the allegations.

They have further sought a direction for a re-examination, should the probe confirm that the examination process was compromised.

The plea also seeks appropriate directions to the Consortium of National Law Universities, which conducts CLAT, to ensure transparency, accountability, and robust safeguards in the examination process, including stricter data security protocols and grievance redressal mechanisms.

The matter is yet to be listed for hearing before an appropriate Bench of the Supreme Court.
