New Delhi, Apr 3 (UNI) Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna on Wednesday welcomed Supreme Court of Ireland Judge Justice Gerard Hogan to the Indian judiciary, acknowledging his esteemed contributios to legal scholarship.
“I have the pleasure to announce that a judge of the Supreme Court of Ireland, Justice Gerard Hogan, is with us. Earlier, he was with the Court of Appeals and was also the Advocate General for the European Court of Appeals. He has authored judgments on the Right to Life and Safe Harbour principles,” said the CJI during the court proceedings.
Highlighting the deep-rooted legal connections between India and Ireland, CJI Khanna remarked, “Ireland and India share a historical connection over Directive Principles of State Policy. Additionally, the principle that India is a union of states was derived from the Irish Constitution. Article 3 of the Indian Constitution bears similarities to Article 5 of the Irish Constitution.”
Justice Gerard Hogan’s visit reflects the continued engagement between India and global judicial systems, fostering mutual learning and cooperation in constitutional law and human rights jurisprudence.
