Bhopal: The city of Bhopal is soaked in the festive spirit as preparations for the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya gather full steam. The bustling markets are glowing with vibrant lights and adorned with flowers, as shopkeepers and citizens alike get ready to celebrate this sacred Hindu festival with great enthusiasm.
Also known as Akha Teej, Akshaya Tritiya holds immense religious significance. It is considered one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar, ideal for initiating new ventures, purchasing gold, and conducting marriages. Reflecting this belief, the city’s main commercial hubs — Chowk Bazaar, Sarafa Bazaar, New Market, and 10 Number Market — have been transformed into glittering centers of celebration.
Shops are fully stocked with new and attractive items, catering to every kind of customer need. From traditional jewelry to decorative items, the surge in footfall across the markets shows that Bhopal’s residents are deeply connected to the festival’s significance and are eager to mark the day in a meaningful way.
This year, Akshaya Tritiya falls on April 30, beginning at 5:32 PM on April 29 and lasting until 2:15 PM on April 30. According to Vedic traditions, since the auspicious period overlaps with sunrise on April 30, that day is considered especially favorable for observing the festival.
Adding to the significance, this year’s Akshaya Tritiya coincides with a rare celestial alignment — Rohini Nakshatra and Wednesday, a combination occurring after 17 years. The last such occurrence was in 2008, and it won’t be seen again until 2052.
According to belief, gold purchased on this day never diminishes, only increases, symbolizing everlasting prosperity. The auspicious window for buying gold this year is from 5:41 AM to 1:12 PM on April 30.
Pandit Brajnandan Pandey, head priest of Shiv Mandir, Shahpura, emphasized the significance of this rare planetary alignment and its impact on auspicious activities like weddings and new ventures.
*Keeping Akshaya Tritiya in mind, we have kept all types of gold and silver jewellery in our shop. Many times people come to buy things on this auspicious occasion just for the sake of it.
