Chinese Foreign Minister arrives in India, have talks with NSA, meet PM, EAM

New Delhi, Aug 18 (UNI) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived here today on a three-day official visit during which he will hold talks with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on several issues including border dispute and also meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

He will also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow.

‘’Welcome to FM Mr. Wang Yi of China as he arrives in New Delhi on an official visit. Important engagements of the India-China Special Representatives and on bilateral relations over the next two days,’’ External Affairs Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal tweeted.

The visit, at India’s invitation, is seen as a step forward towards improvement in bilateral ties after their relations took a downslide post 2020 Galwan incidents.

The Chinese Foreign Minister is scheduled to meet the External Affairs Minister later today. Tomorrow he will have talks with NSA Doval on the border issue as part of the 24th round of talks between the Special Representatives of the two countries on the Boundary Question.

Mr Wang Yi is China’s Special Representative for the border talks while Mr Doval is India’s Special Representative. The 23rd meeting between the SRs of the two countries on the border issue was held in Beijing in December 2024 and had reached ‘’a six-point consensus’’, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said the two sides are expected to consider several confidence-building measures to bolster peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). These include border trade and framework for settling the border issue.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said last week that China is ready to work with India on important issues to build mutual trust, enhance cooperation and promote bilateral ties.

The visit is also significant as the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit China to participate in the SCO meeting.
