Chinese FM Wang Yi arrives tomorrow, to call on PM Modi

New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and also hold talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during his two-day visit that begins tomorrow.

Foreign Minister Wang will hold a meeting with EAM S Jaishankar tomorrow evening in Hyderabad House. On Tuesday, he will meet NSA Ajit Doval for the 24th Meeting between the Special Representatives on India-China Boundary Question, also at Hyderabad House.

On Tuesday evening, he will call on PM Modi at the latter’s official residence, before departing for China the following day.

The visit of Wang, who is also Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China, is at the invitation of NSA Doval.

The talks come ahead of the expected visit of PM Modi to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Tianjin later this month, amid the thawing of ties following the meeting between PM Modi and President Xi Jinping of China in Kazan in October last year on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, that led to the disengagement between their troops on the border.

Since the Kazan meeting, both sides have met several times and taken steps for further normalization of their relations, like resuming the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. There is talk of resuming border trade and aviation ties, while emphasizing on the priority of maintaining peace and tranquility on the border.
