- World Sight Day will be celebrated on October 10 on theme “Children Love Your Eyes”; special camps will be organized
Bhopal: Deputy Chief Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla has said on the eve of World Sight Day that eye protection is not only related to external factors but also to a healthy lifestyle. He said that we should all be aware of eye health, adopt a healthy lifestyle and guide our children in the right direction. The diet should include green leafy vegetables, carrots, citrus fruits and foods rich in vitamins A, C, and E, which are extremely important for eye health. Apart from this, regular eye exercises, adequate sleep and rest of the eyes are also important.
Reduce screen time, encourage children to play outside
Deputy CM Shukla said that many researches have revealed the fact that in today’s time, problems like myopia (nearsightedness) are increasing rapidly in children due to excessive use of screen time. Encourage children to play outside for some time during the day, as natural light has a positive effect on the eyes. Limit the use of digital devices and make it a habit to rest the eyes for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. Children’s eyes should be examined at the right time so that serious eye diseases can be prevented. Awareness towards eye health is the foundation of children’s bright future.
Adopt eye donation as a social responsibility
Deputy CM Shukla said that eye donation is a great donation. Eye donation can brighten a person’s life. He said that all citizens should be aware of eye donation and adopt it as a social responsibility. It is noteworthy that World Sight Day is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of October. This year, this day is being celebrated on the theme of “Children, Love Your Eyes”. The health department is also making people aware and encouraging them to register for eye donation. People willing to donate eyes can get voluntary registration by taking detailed information from the national helpline number 1800114770.
Various activities will be organized
On World Sight Day (October 10), various activities and programs will be organized to make people aware of the importance of eye care, eye protection and vision conservation. Special camps will be organized in district hospitals, civil hospitals, community health centers, in which eye specialists and eye assistants will give advice on eye examination and eye care. Counseling programs and awareness activities for eye care will be organized in all Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
