AIIMS Bhopal’s Physiology Professor Dr. Ruchi Singh presented her research in the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) conference held in Finland’s capital Helsinki from June 29 to July 2. She “correlated fibromyalgia severity with patients’ mood, sleep quality, quality of life and autonomic dysfunction, providing new insights into the effects of fibromyalgia on patients’ lives.” Autonomic dysfunction occurs when the nervous system, which is responsible for maintaining health and balance, does not function properly, she said. In addition to her work on fibromyalgia, Dr. Ruchi presented another paper on the effect of treatment of head and neck tumors on the autonomic nervous system.

Dr. Ruchi’s research involved 100 patients with fibromyalgia, examining the relationship between the severity of their pain and various aspects of their health. Autonomic dysfunction varies widely among individuals. This dysfunction may reflect individual responses to pain rather than the severity of the disease.
