Chargesheet filed against man who attacked Delhi CM

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) In a significant development, the Delhi Police today filed a chargesheet against the main accused, 41-year-old Sakariya Rajeshbhai Khimji, and his aide, Tehsinraza, in connection with the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on August 20.

The chargesheet was filed sixty days after the Chief Minister was attacked during a public hearing, or ‘Jan Sunwai’, on August 20.

The court has taken cognizance of the matter and scheduled the next hearing for October 30. It also dismissed the bail application filed by the co-accused, Tehsinraza.

According to police sources, Sakariya Rajeshbhai has been chargesheeted under sections 109(1), 221, 132, 115(2), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Tehsinraza was Chargesheeted under sections 109(1), 221, 132, and 61(2) of the same code.

Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Rana appeared for the state, while Advocate Pradeep Khatri represented the accused.

The incident occurred on August 20, 2025, during a public hearing at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Civil Lines.

The accused, Khimji, reportedly slapped and pulled the Chief Minister’s hair before being overpowered by security personnel.

The attack occurred around 8:15 a.m. while the Chief Minister was meeting with the public outside her residence. Khimji, who came from Gujarat, approached the CM under the pretext of presenting a grievance.

He handed her some papers before shouting at her and carrying out the assault.

He is currently in judicial custody. During the investigation, his aide, Tehsinraza, was also arrested for allegedly providing logistical support.
