Chandni Chowk part of heritage, says Delhi CM, directs officials to ensure cleanliness

New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today reviewed cleanliness at Chandni Chowk while she took part in the Shramdaan under the ongoing cleanliness service campaign.

Gupta told reporters that the historic area is part of Delhi’s heritage, and during the festivals, the vibrancy of the religious places located here increases manifold.

CM directed the officials concerned to improve the overall cleanliness of the area.

Gupta noted that cleanliness and better maintenance become even more essential during the festive season, urging the locals that just as one keeps his or her home clean, similarly everyone should take responsibility to keep the markets and streets also clean.

“Let’s make cleanliness a habit and work together to make Delhi clean and beautiful,” the CM added.

Gupta joined the campaign organised by the local MP Praveen Khandelwal, who also urged her to expand the jurisdiction of Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, and rename it as ‘Indraprastha Redevelopment Board.’

Gupta also mentioned that Delhi is moving forward presently, drawing inspiration from the sense of service and civic responsibility kindled nationwide through the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, a local body in the area, Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch, also requested the CM to organise “Chandni Chowk Festival.”

General Secretary of this resident’s body, who is also the Delhi BJP Media Head, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, accompanied the chief minister during the cleanliness drive and the inspection.

The CM instructed PWD and Jal Board officials to immediately clean the roadside drains, repair and repaint the street side curbs, enhance cleanliness and greenery on the central verge, and ensure that all streetlights are repaired and made functional by Dussehra.

Gupta also directed the Deputy Commissioner of MCD and the Additional DCP of Police to reduce encroachments on footpaths, ensure cleanliness is done & maintained at least three times a day.

Addressing a local grievance, the CM directed PWD officials to immediately resolve the issue related to boom barriers outside Dariba.

Responding to another resident’s complaint, she instructed the MCD’s senior official to ensure proper cleanliness before the Ramlila procession and take necessary steps to reduce rickshaw congestion.
