Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal continues to achieve medical milestones under the leadership of Professor (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director, who constantly motivates his team of doctors to embrace new challenges. One such challenge was the successful removal of a cancerous tumor from the pancreas of a 55-year-old local resident. The patient, who had been suffering from severe upper abdominal pain and jaundice for the past six months, found relief and hope after seeking treatment at AIIMS Bhopal.
When he arrived at the Medical Gastroenterology OPD at AIIMS Bhopal, a series of diagnostic tests revealed the presence of pancreatic cancer. The medical team promptly performed a stenting procedure to alleviate his suffering and clear the obstruction in the bile duct, allowing for stabilization of his condition.
The patient was then referred to the Surgical Oncology Department, where extensive testing confirmed that surgical removal of the tumor was possible. Dr. Nilesh Srivastava and his team meticulously prepared for the Whipple procedure, a complex operation aimed at increasing the chances of a full recovery. The eight-hour surgery was successfully carried out with the combined efforts of the surgical and anesthesia teams, including Dr. Shikha Jain. Following the operation, the patient was cared for in the surgical ICU and experienced a smooth recovery without any complications. Professor (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, commended the entire team.
