Challenging MRI of newborn conducted at AIIMS

Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully conducting a complex MRI procedure on a newborn. The baby was referred to AIIMS Bhopal with a suspected brain condition. After admission, initial diagnostic tests could not confirm any issue, leading to the need for an MRI. Considering the infant’s delicate condition, doctors from the MRI unit prioritized and scheduled an early MRI date. As MRI procedures are highly challenging for newborns due to loud noise and intense surroundings, a dedicated team of doctors accompanied the baby for nearly 45 minutes, ensuring constant monitoring throughout the procedure.

The MRI was successfully completed under expert supervision. While most brain conditions in newborns can be assessed through cranial ultrasound, MRI is advised when necessary for deeper evaluation. At AIIMS Bhopal, healthcare resources are utilized judiciously to provide timely and appropriate care for every patient.

On this occasion, Prof. Singh said, “At AIIMS Bhopal, we are committed to providing the best medical facilities to every patient. The special arrangements made for this newborn are a reflection of our medical dedication and spirit of service. This example proves that the standard of care at AIIMS Bhopal is not only excellent from a technical standpoint but also compassionate from a human perspective.”
