Satna: Defying the age of modern vehicles and machinery, the historic Donkey Fair in Chitrakoot remains an astonishing spectacle, drawing generations of traders. Many vendors claim their families have attended this unique gathering for centuries, upholding a tradition said to have been initiated by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
The three-day fair, held on the Mandakini riverbank in Madhya Pradesh, concludes today. As the final hours approach, excitement remains high. The highlight this year was the presence of both female buyers and traders, adding a novel dimension to the ancient event. So far, the highest price fetched for a donkey stands at a significant ₹30,000.
Fair in-charge Mahipal Gurjar affirmed that all necessary arrangements were in place, adding, “We will strive to make this fair even better in the years to come.” The Chitrakoot Donkey Fair continues to prove that some traditions are simply timeless.
