Chandigarh, Dec 24 (UNI) Amid growing concerns about the health condition of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on fast-unto-death since the last 28 days, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday said that the Union government should hold talks with farmer organisations.
Taking to X ( formerly twitter), Mann said ‘if Prime Minister Narendra Modi can stop a war between Russia and Ukraine, why can’t he hold talks with farmers sitting just 200 kilometers away from him’.
Earlier, doctors said that the condition of Dallewal was unstable and he could have cardiac arrest anytime or there could be multiple organ failure. A doctor said that they have been urging Dallewal to end his fast but he refuses by saying that the fast will be ended when the union government fulfills farmers’ demands.
Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have been agitating at Punjab-Haryana borders since February this year. Their 12 demands include a law to guarantee Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce. Dallewal is on fast since November 26 at Khanauri border.
At least three groups of farmers attempted to march to Delhi from Shambhu border on three different occasions this month but Haryana police and administration didn’t allow them.
