His return was possible with the collaboration with Ministries of External Affairs and Home, said an official, adding Punetha was wanted by Uttarakhand Police.

An FIR was lodged against him at Pithoragarh police station on the allegation of cheating and criminal conspiracy. He had had fled to the UAE. The CBI coordinated with UAE authorities to locate and apprehend him.

“Red Notices published by Interpol are circulated to all law enforcement agencies globally for tracking wanted fugitives. CBI as the National Central Bureau for Interpol in India, coordinates with all law enforcement agencies in India through BHARATPOL for assistance via Interpol channels,” the CBI said.
