CAs will lead India’s rise as a Global Capability Center powerhouse

Pune, Nov 28 (UNI) Chartered Accountants will be central to India’s emergence as a powerhouse for Global Capability Centers (GCCs), Accenture Managing Director Nirmal Jain said at the inaugural ceremony of the 4th Edition of the GCC Summit held on Friday.

The Group organized the summit to promote India as Accounting GCCs (under the DITS & WTO Directorate) and hosted by the Pune Branch of WIRC of ICAI.

Jain delivered the keynote address on the theme ‘From Ledger to Global Leadership: CAs Shaping Global Capability Centers.’ ICAI leaders, including CA Sanjib Sanghi, Convener of the Group; CA Abhay Chhajed, Dy. Convener, CA Chandrashekhar Chitale, Program Director, CA Sachin Miniyar, Chairman, and CA Nilesh Yeolekar, Secretary of ICAI Pune Branch were present on the dais.

Jain said GCCs had transformed from cost-driven support units into engines of innovation, strategic thinking, and value creation. “Data analytics, technology integration, risk management, and global finance operations are increasingly being led by CAs, he said.

He noted that the profession’s role had evolved far beyond traditional ledger-based services. “The next decade will be shaped by CAs who combine financial depth with technological fluency and strategic vision,” Jain added.

India currently has over 1,600 GCCs, many of which handle core business functions for global companies. Jain said this expanding ecosystem creates significant opportunities for Indian CAs. If our talent adopts industry insight, technological adaptability, and global market awareness, India will define the next phase of GCC evolution, he said.

CA Chandrashekhar Chitale said the summit comes at a pivotal time, as GCCs increasingly look to India for high-end finance capability. “We are witnessing a shift from transactional work to strategic participation. CAs today are not just compliance leaders—they are solution architects for global organizations,” he said.

Speaking on the initiative, CA Sanjib Sanghi said the Group’s objective was to position India as the preferred destination for accounting-related GCCs. “We endeavor to create a strong, globally competitive ecosystem supported by skilled professionals, policy support, and continuous industry engagement,” he said.

CA Abhay Chhajed highlighted the importance of capacity building. “We must prepare young CAs to take on leadership roles in global finance operations. With focused training on technology, analytics, and digital transformation, India can become the world’s most reliable GCC talent hub,” he said.
