New Delhi, 24 Dec (UNI) As air quality in the national capital showed improvement, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Wednesday revoked Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi and the National Capital Region, though stringent pollution-control measures will continue under lower GRAP stages.
In an official order, the CAQM’s sub-committee on GRAP cited a sustained improvement in Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) since Tuesday, along with favourable dispersion conditions and forecasts from IIT Delhi and the India Meteorological Department–IITM collaboration, while announcing the rollback of Stage IV restrictions.
The order noted that high wind speeds and favourable weather conditions since Tuesday evening helped improve air quality, with Delhi’s AQI dropping to 271, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category.
Stage IV measures had been imposed on December 13 amid a sharp deterioration in air quality, just hours after Stage III restrictions were announced, as AQI levels approached the ‘severe plus’ category.
Actions under GRAP I, II and III, however, remain invoked, the agency added.
The CAQM said it would continue to closely monitor air quality and meteorological conditions and reimpose stricter measures if pollution levels worsen.
