New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) The fourth day of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium produced a gripping contest of resilience and response as West Indies, led by centuries from John Campbell and Shai Hope, posted 390 in their second innings before India reached 63 for 1 at stumps, leaving just 58 runs to win on the final day.
The day belonged to Campbell and Hope, who scripted a remarkable West Indies fightback after India had enforced the follow-on. Campbell, after 50 innings of waiting, brought up his maiden Test hundred, a composed 115 marked by discipline and aggression.
Hope, rediscovering his red-ball rhythm, followed with his first Test century in eight years, a fluent 103 laced with 12 boundaries and two sixes.
Hope’s milestone came with a trademark drive off Mohammed Siraj, sparking celebrations in the visiting camp. He and Roston Chase added 50 for the fourth wicket, steering the Windies through the morning session.
After his dismissal — bowled by Siraj — the innings seemed to wobble, but Justin Greaves (50) and Jayden Seales (32) produced an entertaining 79-run 10th-wicket stand to push the total to 390 in 118.5 overs.
Greaves reached his maiden fifty with a crisp drive off Jasprit Bumrah, while Seales impressed with a six and four, even surviving a dropped catch off Ravindra Jadeja. The pair frustrated India for over an hour before Bumrah, with the second new ball, ended the innings by having Seales caught by Washington Sundar at deep square leg.
Bumrah finished with figures of 3 for 44, while Kuldeep Yadav (3/104) and Ravindra Jadeja (1/102) kept chipping away. Siraj picked up two wickets for 43, including the prized wicket of Hope.
In response, India’s openers looked eager to finish quickly. Yashasvi Jaiswal began in trademark flair, smashing two cover drives and a third-man boundary off Seales before falling to Jomel Warrican for 8, caught by Anderson Phillip at long-on.
That early blow didn’t rattle India’s chase. KL Rahul (25*) and B Sai Sudharsan (30*) combined for an unbroken 55-run stand, displaying patience and placement against the West Indian spinners.
Sai Sudharsan drove fluently — picking four boundaries off Khary Pierre and Roston Chase — while Rahul rotated strike and punished loose deliveries. India closed at 63 for 1 in 18 overs, well within sight of a 2–0 series win.
