Bhopal: The birth anniversary of Bahujan leader Kanshi Ram was celebrated with great enthusiasm at a residence of Congress MLA Phool Singh Baraia in Bhopal on Sunday. The programme was presided over by senior social worker T.R. Ahirwar, who, along with several speakers, expressed concern over the rising “poison of casteism” in the country and called for unity to safeguard the Constitution.

Participants welcomed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s demand to confer the Bharat Ratna on Kanshi Ram. Dr Vikram Chaudhary said that honouring Kanshi Ram with the nation’s highest civilian award would recognise the struggle and self-respect of millions from the Bahujan community.

In his presidential address, Ahirwar emphasised the need to defend constitutional values and strengthen democratic voices. Speakers also recalled Kanshi Ram’s lifelong dedication to social justice, noting his nationwide bicycle tours to spread awareness among marginalised communities.

Several social activists and youth leaders attended the event, which concluded with a vote of thanks by Mahesh Nandmeher.
