Bye-polls to be held in seven Assembly constituencies across six states and one UT on Nov 11 : EC

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Bye-elections in eight Assembly constituencies across six states and one union Territory will be held on November 11 to fill vacancies arising due to resignations, deaths or disqualification of sitting MLAs, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said here today.

Counting of votes will be done on November 14.

In the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, bye-elections will be held in Budgam following the resignation of former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and in Nagrota due to the death of sitting MLA Devender Singh Rana.

In Rajasthan the bye-election in Anta has been necessitated by the disqualification of sitting MLA Kanwarlal while Jharkhand will see a poll in Ghatsila (ST) following the death of sitting legislator Ramdas Soren. In Telangana the seat of Jubilee Hills has fallen vacant due to the death of sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath.

In Punjab, bye-elections will be held in Tarn Taran. The seat fell vacant due to the death of sitting MLA Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal. Similarly, Dampa (ST) in Mizoram and Nuapada in Odisha have fallen vacant following the deaths of sitting MLAs Lalrintluanga Saila and Rajendra Dholakia, respectively.

Schedule for these bye-elections will be announced shortly, said the CEC.
