Jammu, Nov 11 (UNI) Polling to decide the fate of 10 candidates in the Nagrota Assembly by-poll started here today amidst tight security arrangements.
The polling smoothly commenced at 7 am across all the 150 polling stations in the constituency and will end at 6 pm.
Ten candidates including Deviyani Rana, daughter of former BJP MLA Late Devender Singh Rana, National Conference’s (NC) Shamim Begum and J&K National Panthers Party (India) president and former minister, Harsh Dev Singh are in fray in a triangular contest.
Other candidates namely Joginder Singh of Aam Aadmi Party, Bodh Raj of Apni Party and president All J&K Panchayat Conference, Anil Sharma are also in the contest with independents.
The By-Poll was necessitated by the death of BJP legislator Devender Singh Rana last year.
The Constituency has 97,893 registered voters.
Political stalwarts like Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and union Minister Jitendra Singh also campaigned for their party candidates.
Devender Singh Rana had twice represented Nagrota in 2014 and 2024 winning the last election with a record margin of 30,472 votes against his NC rival Joginder Singh after switching to the BJP from the NC in 2021.
Meanwhile tight security has been put in place for the smooth conduct of the voting.
