BSSS students visit Composite Regional Centre

  • Understand rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities

Bhopal: In a collaborative effort between the Department of Psychology and the Committee for Students with Disabilities at BSSS College, students from the BA Psychology III and VII semesters embarked on an educational visit to the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Persons with Disabilities in Bhopal. The visit, which took place on September 27, 2024, aimed to expose students to the real-world application of rehabilitation services for individuals with disabilities and deepen their understanding of the role psychology plays in this field.

Accompanied by assistant professors Dr. Sunaina Kaur, Ms. Rupali Shrivastava, and Ms. Udita Singh, the students arrived at CRC at 2:00 PM and were warmly received by Dr. Poonam, a clinical psychologist at the center. Dr. Poonam provided a comprehensive introduction to CRC, explaining its mission to empower and rehabilitate individuals with various physical, intellectual, and sensory disabilities.

Students were given an extensive tour of the facility, with each department head explaining their department’s role in rehabilitation. Key areas included the Orthotics and Prosthetics Department, where students learned about creating and customizing mobility aids and prosthetics, and the Department of Special Education for Intellectually Disabled (ID) individuals, which offers specialized educational services to help these individuals integrate into society. The students also visited departments offering vocational training and coaching classes that provide essential life skills for individuals with disabilities.

The visit concluded with a session led by Dr. indrabhusan Kumar the Prabhari Adhikari (Officer-in-Charge) of CRC, who engaged in a detailed discussion with the students about the centerÆs mission and answered questions regarding internship opportunities and potential career paths in rehabilitation services. The students left the session inspired, gaining practical insights into how psychology and rehabilitation work together to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities.
