Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 30 (UNI) Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced plans to expand its Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network in Thiruvananthapuram district to cross the one-lakh mark by the end of this year, as part of a broader push to strengthen connectivity and digital services.
At present, the district has 67,322 FTTH connections, including 39,770 in urban areas and 27,602 in rural regions. The Circle serves 5.7 lakh subscribers and has rolled out 4G coverage at 743 sites, including 27 tribal locations under the national 4G saturation project.
To further boost network capacity, 83 additional mobile towers are being installed. Under its popular Freedom Plan, 17,225 new customers have joined BSNL in the district.
Traditional copper-based exchanges in Attingal and Nedumangad have been upgraded to next-generation optical fibre, while FTTH connectivity has been extended to 73 gram panchayats through the BharatNet project.
Customer-focused initiatives include the Vidya Mitram scheme, which sponsors FTTH connections for deserving students, IPTV services offering more than 354 live channels, roaming Wi-Fi hotspots linked to home networks, and remote FTTH monitoring through the TR069 system.
BSNL has also launched the Kaushalam programme to upskill students and employees in line with industry requirements.
For enterprise customers, BSNL is offering integrated business solutions tailored to organisational size and telecom infrastructure needs.
The company also commissioned India’s first stand-alone on-premise 5G private network at the Amlohri opencast coal mines in Madhya Pradesh, in collaboration with C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram.
Meanwhile, the Silver Jubilee Exhibition-cum-Sale Fair was inaugurated at the CTO office premises in Thiruvananthapuram.
