New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) The Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday, flagged off a 34-day mountaineering expedition at the BSF Institute of Adventure and Advanced Training (BIAAT) in Doiwala, Dehradun.
The expedition, led by Padma Shri awardee and seven-time Everest summiteer Deputy Commandant Loveraj Singh Dharamshaktu, aims to scale four peaks in the Lahaul and Ladakh region—Mt. Yunam (6,111m), Mt. Thugje (6,128m), Mt. Thugje East (6,080m), and Mt. Mentok (6,250m).
The mission honors 13 BSF mountaineers who lost their lives during a 1995 expedition to Mt. Saser Kangri-I (7,672m) in the Karakoram Range. It also supports the “Swachh Bharat – Clean Himalaya” and “Hum FIT To INDIA FIT” campaigns by collecting waste from high-altitude camps (14,000 to 20,500 feet) for proper disposal.
A 35-member team, including experienced climbers, fresh recruits, and women personnel, will undergo advanced alpine training while promoting environmental awareness. The BSF has a storied mountaineering legacy, with past successes on Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Manaslu.
