Brutal murder of Kalkaji temple Pujari sparks political row in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) The murder of a Pujari from Kalkaji temple has triggered a political row in the capital, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) holding the BJP-led central government and Delhi Police responsible for what it termed a collapse of law and order in the city.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, AAP MLA Anil Jha said the incident was not only a case of murder but also “an attack on faith.” He alleged that despite the BJP’s control over multiple civic and administrative bodies in Delhi, law and order had deteriorated, leaving citizens vulnerable to crime.

“The BJP projects itself as the biggest protector of religion, yet in the national capital a temple priest has been brutally murdered. This shows complete failure of intelligence and policing,” Jha remarked. He further alleged that criminals in Delhi had been emboldened and that incidents of murder, loot, theft and rape were on the rise.”

Jha also raised concerns over women’s safety, citing a viral video in which women claimed they did not feel safe travelling in Delhi during late hours. He said such fears highlighted the gap between official claims of security and the ground reality.

The AAP leader criticised Delhi Police, pointing to a recent case where a senior officer allegedly referred to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as “Sahab.” Jha said such remarks reflected “mental bankruptcy” and claimed the force was being misused to target innocent people while failing to instill fear among criminals.

Calling the Kalkaji incident a “slap on the government’s face,” he urged Delhi Police not to dismiss the case as a personal rivalry. “The central government has failed to provide security to the people of Delhi. Our citizens are not safe in the national capital,” he said.

The BJP has not yet issued a response to the allegations made by AAP. Police have launched an investigation into the murder.
