Brahmin organisations protest over IAS officer’s remarks

Bhopal: Office-bearers of various Brahmin organisations staged a protest and blocked the road at Rashanpura Square on Thursday evening, expressing strong anger over allegedly derogatory remarks made by the newly elected AJAKS president, IAS officer Santosh Verma, regarding Brahmin girls.

The demonstration drew a large crowd, with hundreds of members from upper-caste communities joining the agitation. Prominent figures present at the protest included employee leader Sudhir Nayak, former Municipal Corporation chairman Kailash Mishra, Pushpendra Mishra, employee leader Shyamsunder Sharma, Rakesh Chaturvedi, and Hindu Utsav Samiti president Chandrashekhar Tiwari.

Addressing the demonstrators, Parshuram Board president Vishnu Rajoria criticised the state government, stating that although the board was constituted with much fanfare, it has failed to deliver any concrete benefits to the Brahmin community. “Not a single welfare scheme has been implemented for Brahmins so far. The board exists only on paper,” Rajoria remarked, calling for immediate action and accountability.

The protest caused temporary disruption of traffic at the busy square, prompting police intervention. After negotiations failed to disperse the crowd peacefully, authorities briefly detained several leaders and participants. They were later released.

The incident has intensified the ongoing controversy surrounding Verma’s comments, with community leaders demanding a formal apology and strict action. The administration has yet to issue an official response.
