New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) As Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan completed 83 today, tributes and wishes poured in from across the film industry and millions of fans worldwide, celebrating his contribution to Indian cinema.
Hindi cinema’s iconic “Angry Young Man” continues to inspire generations of artists with his magnificent oeuvre of work and strong screen presence.
As the Bollywood Shahenshah stepped out of his Mumbai residence Jalsa to greet his fans on the occasion, there was celebratory applause from hundreds of admirers, many of whom held aloft placards and posters eulogising the legendary actor.
Bachchan waved to the crowd and folded hands in a thankful gesture and even distributed gifts.
From early morning, social media was abuzz with wishes from fans, while the film fraternity shared tributes, fondly recalling his iconic films.
Prominent actors and filmmakers, including Prabhas, Farhan Akhtar, Shatrughan Sinha, Srijit Mukherji, and Manoj Bajpayee, took to social media to congratulate the veteran actor on his big day.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ star Prabhas, who shared screen space with Bachchan in the sci-fi blockbuster, postedon Instagram, “Happy birthday Amitabhbachchan sir. It’s a privilege to witness your legacy and work alongside you. Wishing you a wonderful year ahead.”
Farhan Akhtar shared a nostalgic post featuring a photo with his father Javed Akhtar and Bachchan from Kaun Banega Crorepati, writing: “Listening to you and dad reminisce about your life and times together was an absolute treat… I wish you good health and happiness always.”
Shatrughan Sinha extended his wishes on X, calling Bachchan “our icon and role model,” while Srijit Mukherji paid poetic tribute, recalling the actor’s memorable performances — “the half-turn of Deewar, simmering of Shakti, swag of Don, and silence of Sarkar.”
Manoj Bajpayee credited Bachchan as the reason he pursued acting, writing, “You planted the seed of acting in me. Thank you, Amit ji, for inspiring an entire generation.”
Actress Shilpa Shirodkar, who starred with Big B in Khuda Gawah and Hum, wrote, “To the man I secretly wanted to marry when I was a fan, and the man who taught me so much as a co-star — wishing you a fantastic birthday, Amit ji!”
Anupam Kher shared a heartfelt video message, calling Bachchan “an inspiration in cinema and in life,” while Ajay Devgn, who directed him in Runway 34, recalled, “The toughest task was saying ‘cut’ when sir delivered a shot.”
Birthday wishes also came from Kriti Sanon, Shilpa Shetty, Sonam Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, and Farah Khan, each expressing admiration for the legend’s artistry and grace.
Bachchan’s granddaughter Navya Nanda posted an adorable picture with him, captioned, “Happy Birthday Nana.”
Continuing a beloved tradition, hundreds of fans gathered outside Bachchan’s Mumbai residence, Jalsa, holding posters and placards to catch a glimpse of the superstar.
The megastar is known for his performances in films such as ‘Deewaar’, ‘Sholay’, ‘Kabhi Kabhie’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Don’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’, ‘Coolie’, ‘Silsila’, ‘Yaarana’, ‘Kaalia’, ‘Satte Pe Satta’, ‘Shakti’, ‘Aakhree Raasta’, ‘Shahenshah’ and ‘Agneepath’.
