New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) BJP leader and Supreme Court Advocate Ajay Agrawal today said he has spoken to Michael Hershman, a US-based private investigator, regarding his claim about possessing “new information” in relation to the 35-year-old Bofors Gun deal scam.
Agrawal, who has been pursuing the scandal in the Supreme Court, said the telephonic talk was “productive” and Hershman has expressed “his willingness to meet and share new information”.
The Bofors scandal shook the national polity in the late 1980s after allegations emerged that Rs 64 crore were paid as a bribe in the Rs 1437 crore deal between the Governments of India and Swedish arms manufacturer AB Bofors for the purchase of 410 155 mm Howitzer field guns.
There was a huge controversy which hit the Congress government headed by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Hershman recently claimed that he has some “new information” related to the case.
Subsequently, some media reports suggested that the CBI has sent a Letter Rogatory (LR) to the US, requesting Hersman’s cooperation in sharing the “new information”.
But according to Agrawal, Hersman told him that he has not yet received any formal request from the Indian government regarding the recent CBI Letter Rogatory.
However, he remains open to sharing all relevant details he has on the matter, Agrawal said.
“The conversation with Michael Hershman was very positive. He is willing to meet me in the USA and discuss the new information he possesses. This could be a crucial breakthrough in uncovering the truth,” Agrawal said.
