Chandigarh, Jan 30 (UNI) In a major jolt to the Aam Aadmi Party-Congress alliance in Chandigarh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Harpreet Kaur Babla was elected as the Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and Congress candidate Jasbir Singh Bunty as the Deputy Mayor.
Babla got 19 votes in a 35-member house, whereas AAP’s candidate Premlata could muster 17 votes.
For the Deputy Mayor election, Bunty secured 19 votes, whereas BJP candidate Bimla Devi got 17 votes.
At least three councillors from the AAP-Congress camp voted for Babla thereby ensuring BJP’s victory. BJP had 16 members in the house including a Congress councillor, who had joined the saffron outfit a couple of days back.
AAP-Congress alliance had 19 members and a MP, who is an ex-officio member of the house, also casted is vote.
