BJP trying to disturb public tranquility during Delhi polls, alleges Congress

New Delhi, Jan 26 (UNI) The Congress on Sunday accused the BJP of “disturbing public tranquility” ahead of the Delhi elections by allegedly “spreading communalism and putting the social fabric at stake”.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “At the time of elections in Delhi, BJP is airing a hate film and is bent on getting votes by dividing the society”.

Singhvi alleged that the BJP is airing a communally motivated film that intended to incite, divide, and mislead voters. Noting that such “actions do not suit a so-called ‘national party’ like the BJP”.

“Let us take into account the release of the film ‘Delhi 2020’. The film has been promoted by BJP leaders as if they are co-directors/ investors/ producers in the film. They are promoting it with crude propaganda,” Singhvi alleged.

He further alleged that BJP leader Amit Malviya had shared the trailer for the film on the social media handle, saying that “it contained a grossly exaggerated and distorted sequence of events”.

He said, “Why release such a film just days before the elections? In 2019, the BJP released a Modi biopic, just days before the general election. We approached the Election Commission and the Supreme Court, and the ECI issued orders to defer the screening and release of that movie until after the elections.”

He hoped that the “ECI will act in the same way this time and follow its own precedent.”

Meanwhile, slamming the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on the alleged ad, the senior Congress leaders said, “It is unfortunate that with defeat staring them in the face, our opponents see everyone else as corrupt and themselves as the only ones clean.”

He alleged that a “political ad was issued that tried to defame and malign the reputation of our esteemed leaders.”

“This kind of debasing political discourse culture must be condemned. Such kind of defamatory ads or statements must be immediately policed, taken down, and stopped. The window is very short during the electoral process, and so prompt action is the need of the hour,” Singhvi said.
