BJP MLA Pritam Singh Lodhi lashes out at own government

  • Demands to make Tehsil Pichhore as District

Bhopal, A political storm brewed in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Monday as BJP MLA Pritam Singh Lodhi openly challenged his own government over the long-standing demand for granting district status to Pichhore, a tehsil in Shivpuri district. During Question Hour, Lodhi vociferously accused the government of lacking seriousness in fulfilling a promise he claimed was made during the last assembly elections.

Drawing a sharp parallel to a famous political slogan, MLA Lodhi alleged that the then Chief Minister, during an election rally in Pichhore, had declared, “‘Tum mujhe Vidhayak do, main tumhe Zila dunga’ (You give me the MLA, and I will give you a district).” He questioned the fate of this alleged promise and demanded an explanation for why Pichhore had not yet been elevated to district status.

In response, Revenue Minister Karan Singh Verma firmly stated that no Chief Minister had made any such formal declaration. He clarified that the creation of a new district is an administrative process governed by established rules and procedures. Unfazed, Lodhi countered by offering to provide the Minister with video evidence of the alleged declaration, asserting Pichhore’s eligibility for district formation.

Minister Verma then proceeded to inform Lodhi about the intricacies of the delimitation process and the associated regulations. Intervening in the escalating exchange, Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar highlighted that the government had already constituted a delimitation commission for this very purpose, and future districts would be created based on the commission’s recommendations.

It is worth noting that MLA Pritam Lodhi has a history of controversial statements. He was previously expelled from the BJP for making objectionable remarks against a particular community. However, prior to the 2023 assembly elections, the party reinstated him and fielded him from Pichhore, where he successfully secured his re-election. This latest verbal volley against his own government underscores the persistent pressure for local development and promises made on the campaign trail.
