BJP launches nationwide campaign to counter Opposition misinformation on SIR

New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) To counter the opposition’s deliberate spread of false narratives about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a nationwide public awareness campaign to dispel what it calls “misinformation and confusion” being propagated by opposition parties.
A central team, led by BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, has been formed to spearhead the campaign. The team is visiting states where the SIR exercise is underway, organizing workshops, and engaging directly with citizens to ensure accurate information reaches grassroots levels.
Alongside Chugh, the team includes senior leaders such as K Laxman, Alka Gurjar, OP Dhankhar, Rituraj Sinha, Anirban Ganguly, K Annamalai, and others. Using a combination of data-driven insights, official inputs, and ground-level feedback, the team is strategizing efforts to clarify the process for voters.
Party leaders have accused the opposition of deliberately spreading false narratives to mislead citizens, prompting the BJP to take proactive measures nationwide.
“Members of the team are consistently touring states, meeting party workers, and conducting workshops to ensure clarity and dissemination of correct information,” Chugh said, emphasizing the party’s commitment to countering false interpretations and rumors regarding SIR.
BJP officials said meetings are being held continuously at every level, from state to booth, to ensure that party workers and citizens receive accurate information.
The party reaffirmed that it will respond on all platforms with verified facts and evidence to dispel public confusion and present a clear picture of the SIR process.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will conduct the second phase of Special Intensive Revision across 12 states and union territories, with the final voter list scheduled for publication on February 7, 2026. The first phase was conducted in Bihar in September ahead of the state Assembly elections.
The upcoming exercise will cover Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI) schedule, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process will begin with printing and training from October 28 to November 3, 2025, followed by the Enumeration Phase from November 4 to December 4, 2025.
The Draft Electoral Rolls will be published on December 9, 2025, with a Claims and Objections period running from December 9, 2025, to January 8, 2026. Simultaneously, the Notice Phase for hearing and verification will take place from December 9, 2025, to January 31, 2026, culminating in the publication of the Final Electoral Rolls on February 7, 2026.
Through coordinated efforts of senior leaders and on-ground teams, the BJP aims to raise awareness and ensure that citizens have accurate and reliable information about the SIR process.
