Bengaluru, Sep 27 (UNI) After officially announcing the alliance, the BJP and JDS on Wednesday jointly staged a protest for the first time against the Congress government’s failure to handle the Cauvery water dispute here on Wednesday.
The joint protest was staged in front of Gandhi statue of Vidhana Soudha here.
Among the top leaders who staged the protest were Nalin Kumar Kateel, DV Sadananda Gowda and former CMs BS Yediyurappa and HD Kumaraswamy among others.
Addressing the media, Yediyurappa called Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar as an agent of the DMK which is betraying the people of Karnataka
Yediyurappa warned the Congress government of law and order deterioration if it does not make any efforts to correct the wrongs. “If this situation arises, you (Congress government) will be held responsible,” he warned.
Yediyurappa said instead of asking for PM Narendra Modi’s intervention into the Cauvery matter, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar should hold talks with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin who have good rapport with him and solve the problem.
The CWRC’s (Cauvery Water Regulation Committee) had ordered Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu from September 28 to October 15.
Accusing Shivakumar for his lackadaisical attitude towards Cauvery dispute, Kumaraswamy flayed him for expressing satisfaction over CWRC’s order, reducing release of water from 5,000 cusecs to 3,000 cusecs.
