New Delhi, Sept 4 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party today praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the public and entrepreneurs following a comprehensive overhaul of the GST structure and said the reforms have created a Diwali-like festive spirit across the nation even before the festival itself.
The BJP also slammed the Congress party for not appreciating the reforms and instead acting like the Aam Aadmi Party which always criticizes the country’s important institutions.
Addressing reporters at the party headquarters here, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise made from the Red Fort on August 15 to reduce GST rates. “The promise has been fulfilled,” he said emphatically, adding, “With Modi, everything is possible.”
“The reforms in GST structure demonstrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the common man and entrepreneurs despite the global turmoil,” he said adding that the GST revamp brought by the Modi government will bring “huge change and a bundle of happiness” for the common man.
Patra highlighted that the reduction in GST rates will lead to a decline in prices across a broad spectrum of essential commodities, ranging from daily necessities to medicines, vehicles, clothing, and electronics. He described the GST reforms as a significant relief for middle-class families, bringing not just economic respite but also a message of prosperity.
The spokesperson further said the cut in GST will provide a boost to the textile industry and offer substantial relief to the common man. He underscored that reductions in GST on medicines and medical devices would greatly benefit patients, while the health and insurance sectors stand to gain the most. “The zero tax rate on insurance will encourage all citizens to avail health insurance benefits,” Patra said.
Agricultural equipment, tractors, and their spare parts will also see reduced GST rates, promising considerable advantages for farmers, he added.
Patra pointed out that GST rate cuts on both two-wheelers and four-wheelers will invigorate the automobile industry. Summing up, he described the GST reforms as a true harbinger of happiness for the country.
The BJP also hit out at the Congress over its criticism of the move. The GST council move has brought all common use items from roti/paratha to hair oil, ice creams and TVs to cost less, while tax incidence on personal health and life insurance will be brought down to nil
“Congress party should hold a press conference on GST Reforms today and tell whether or not this has benefited farmers, families? Their press conferences make no difference. They abuse some institutions without evidence, talk of “vote chori” without facts, and speak only on television. Congress is becoming like Aam Aadmi Party, more on the television and less on the ground…Congress party has turned into Aam Aadmi Party,” said Patra.
