New Delhi, Sept 3 (UNI) Hours after Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera was issued a notice by the Election Commission for allegedly holding two voter identity cards, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today targeted his spouse and fellow Congress leader, Kota Neelima, alleging that she too possesses two active Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs).
Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Shazia Ilmi stated that Neelima, who contested from the Khairatabad Assembly segment in Telangana, holds two active EPICs — one registered in Khairatabad and another in New Delhi. She shared the details of the two cards: EPIC Number TDZ2666014 for Assembly segment 60-Khairatabad (active in 2023 and 2025) and EPIC Number SJE0755975 for Assembly segment 40-New Delhi.
Ilmi questioned the silence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the issue, saying, “Why the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is silent on his CWC member and party leader’s fraudulently holding the two cards?”
She further condemned the Congress as “vote dacoits” and recalled the 1980 controversy when Sonia Gandhi was reportedly listed in the electoral roll despite being an Italian citizen. “Congress CWC member Pawan Khera and his wife both have dual EPIC cards, a situation reflective of their party’s past when Sonia Gandhi herself appeared on India’s voter list despite her foreign citizenship,” Ilmi added, criticising Rahul Gandhi’s silence on such matters within his party.
The Electoral Registration Officer of New Delhi has issued a notice to Khera regarding his dual registration in two constituencies, a violation of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The notice required an explanation by September 8.
Ilmi also urged the Election Commission to investigate the allegations against Neelima holding two voter cards.
Responding to a query about the deregulatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother at a recent poll-bound Bihar rally of Congress-RJD alliance, she said, people of Bihar will avenge this abusive language.
Ilmi has also sought Election Commission’s probe into the allegations against Kota Neelima for holding the dual voter cards.
