BJP accuses Cong govt of neglecting Kangra district

Dharamshala, Dec 20 (UNI) Senior BJP state spokesperson Trilok Kapoor on Friday accused the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government of neglecting Kangra district, citing the Himachal Pradesh Human Development Report 2025 to allege political discrimination and declining development indicators.
Referring to the report released by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on October 27, 2025, in Shimla, Kapoor said Kangra has slipped to the bottom among all 12 districts of the state, ranking 12th on the Human Development Index (HDI) with a score of 0.695. “In contrast, districts like Solan and Lahaul-Spiti have recorded significantly higher development indicators,” he added.
Kapoor alleged that despite being one of the largest districts and a key contributor to the formation of the present government, Kangra has been deliberately pushed into backwardness under the Congress regime. He said, “The report clearly reflects declining income levels and human development indicators in the district.”
Taking a dig at the ongoing ‘Kangra Winter Carnival 2025’ in Dharamshala, the BJP leader questioned the rationale of celebrating festivities when the district is officially declared the weakest in development parameters. He termed the carnival a “mockery of Kangra’s plight”.
Kapoor further alleged that under the guise of the carnival, traders, small shopkeepers, and panchayats were being subjected to the collection of funds in the name of sponsorship and cooperation, calling it “salt on the wounds” of people already facing economic distress.
He also accused the state government of shelving major development projects in Kangra and using the administrative machinery for political vendetta instead of providing relief, particularly after the floods and disasters faced by the district in 2025.
Warning the government, Kapoor said that the people of Kangra were closely watching what he described as the Congress party’s “dual standards and discriminatory attitude” and would respond appropriately in the times to come.
