Bhopal: Tribal Congress National President and MLA Dr Vikrant Bhuriya has sharply criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over its tribal welfare policies, alleging that the celebration of Tribal Pride Day by the ruling party is merely a “political spectacle”. He said the Congress has consistently fought for the genuine rights and welfare of tribal communities, while the BJP focuses only on “grand events and publicity”.
Dr Bhuriya stated that true respect for tribal communities lies in ensuring their education, employment, cultural dignity and protection of land and forest rights. “It was during the Congress government that we began celebrating Tribal Day at the official level, to give tribal identity a place of respect on the national stage,” he said.
He pointed to incidents such as the Sidhi urination case, and the Neemuch and Nemawar tragedies, claiming these reflect systemic failures in BJP’s governance. He further alleged that the Tribal Sub-Plan fund of ₹1.25 lakh crore, meant for tribal welfare, was diverted across departments instead of reaching the intended beneficiaries.
Dr Bhuriya posed key questions to the government regarding employment, delayed forest rights claims, and the neglect of tribal land and resource ownership. He affirmed that the Congress remains committed to ensuring tribals participate meaningfully in development.
