Bhopal’s Upper Lake set for a Shikara revival to enchant tourists

Bhopal: After the suspension of the ‘Lake Princess’ cruise and ‘Jalpari’ motorboat services on Bhopal’s iconic Upper Lake, efforts are underway to restore the lake’s charm and reignite tourist enthusiasm. Plans are in motion to introduce ten traditional Shikara boats, offering a unique and serene boating experience.

Eight of these elegant Shikaras have already been launched onto the lake, with the remaining two expected to arrive within the next day or two. Following the complete arrival of the fleet, the MPT (Madhya Pradesh Tourism) Boat Club will host a grand inauguration ceremony, with a departmental minister officially unveiling the new Shikara boats.

This isn’t the first attempt to bring Shikaras to Bhopal’s Upper Lake. The Municipal Corporation previously tried, but their effort reportedly failed as the boats they introduced were conventional, not authentic Shikaras. In contrast, the MPT has now brought in boats that truly embody the Shikara style, promising a more genuine and appealing experience for visitors.
