Bhopal’s Rs 1800 crores drug bust

  • Court denies bail to key operative

Bhopal: The legal noose tightens in Bhopal’s monumental Rs 1800 crores MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) drug seizure case, as the court rejected the bail plea of accused Harish Anjana, a close associate of the alleged mastermind. The court emphasized the staggering quantity of MDMA recovered from Anjana, highlighting the grave societal threat posed by individuals who ensnare youth in drug addiction, thus deeming bail inappropriate in this serious matter.

Investigations reveal Anjana’s pivotal role as a trusted aide to Shoaib Lala, the suspected kingpin of the drug manufacturing operation. Anjana allegedly played an integral part in the clandestine process, assisting Lala in packaging MDMA in one-kilogram packets before personally delivering them to Rajasthan. At one point, Anjana is even believed to have orchestrated the loading of MDMA onto trucks destined for Mandsaur. The duo reportedly commanded a hefty price of Rs 7 to Rs 8 lakh for each kilogram of the illicit drug.

This significant drug bust unfolded last year when the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) raided a defunct factory in the Bagroda area, on the outskirts of Bhopal. The joint operation, conducted with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), led to the recovery of MDMA worth an estimated Rs 1800 crores. The clandestine drug production was traced to the industrial estate near Bangrasiya, on Bhopal’s periphery. This breakthrough followed leads obtained from arrests made in Surat, Gujarat, ultimately exposing the Bhopal-based drug manufacturing network and resulting in the apprehension of two other individuals, Amit Chaturvedi and Sanyal Bane. The denial of bail to Anjana underscores the judiciary’s firm stance against drug trafficking and its commitment to dismantling such large-scale criminal enterprises.
