Bhopal Metro to offer concessional rides for first 3 months

Bhopal: The city is set to take a major step toward becoming Madhya Pradesh’s first true metropolis, as the city’s metro begins its commercial operations in December. After the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) completed the final inspection and granted approval, preparations are now underway for a possible inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Even before the launch, discussion on fares has gained momentum. Although the Metro Corporation has not officially released the fare structure, a chart displayed at MP Nagar station suggests that the model will mirror Indore’s metro system.

According to officials, passengers will be able to travel free of cost for the first seven days. Following this, the metro will offer discounts of 75%, 50%, and 25% on tickets for three months to encourage ridership. After the concession period, the minimum fare is expected to be Rs 20, with the maximum capped at Rs 80.

Initially, the metro will operate on the 6.22 km priority corridor between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS, while the remaining stretch toward Karond will be completed in the next few years.
