Bhopal Metro: CMRS team conducts second round of inspections: Final clearance expected after Diwali

Bhopal: The city is inching closer to the commercial launch of its metro rail service as another team from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) arrived in the city on Friday. This visit marks a critical step toward obtaining final clearance for the metro’s operation.

Before the commissioner’s arrival, a three-member CMRS team conducted a detailed inspection over two days (October 15–16). They reviewed the depot, tracks, and operational software, including key components of the priority corridor. A final inspection by Commissioner Janak Kumar Garg is scheduled to take place after Diwali.

Earlier, in September, Commissioner Garg and his team inspected the Subhash Nagar depot and the 6.22-kilometer priority corridor, including a brief ride between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS stations. This second inspection focused on the main line, eight metro stations, tracks, electrical and mechanical systems, safety measures, and technical standards.

Stations inspected

Stations inspected included Subhash Nagar, Kendriya Vidyalaya, DB Mall, MP Nagar, RKMP, DRM Tiraha, Alkapuri, and AIIMS. The team evaluated entry and exit arrangements, passenger amenities, and operational readiness. Metro train features such as air-conditioned coaches, CCTV cameras, charging points, comfortable seating, and real-time passenger information systems were also assessed.

Additionally, the Operation Control Center (OCC), power supply, fire safety systems, and maintenance infrastructure were reviewed. The earlier visit by the Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) also resulted in an “OK” report, paving the way for CMRS inspections.

The commercial run is proposed for later this month, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to flag off the service—and possibly be its first passenger.
