Bhopal Metro achieves 90 km/h in successful RDSO testing

  • Safety report expected in 15 days

Bhopal: The Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) of Indian Railways conducted high-speed testing of the Bhopal Metro, successfully running it at 90 km/h on the test track between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS. The testing, which began on July 9 and concluded on July 21, was carried out by a 15-member RDSO team led by Director (Testing) Sandeep Gupta.

Over the 13-day period, the metro was rigorously evaluated for several critical parameters, including track integrity, signal systems, maximum speed, and the emergency braking distance (EBD). The tests were conducted non-stop for 3 to 4 hours daily over a span of five days, with the metro completing 10 to 15 runs each day.

Major milestone for the project: Metro MD

Metro MD S Krishna Chaitanya confirmed the successful completion of oscillation and EBD testing, calling it a major milestone for the project. He emphasized the significance of these trials for obtaining safety certifications and final technical approvals.

The data collected during this extensive testing phase will now be analyzed, and the RDSO is expected to submit its final report within 15 days. This testing phase is crucial to ensure passenger safety and operational reliability before the metro is officially commissioned.

The Bhopal Metro Corporation aims to complete all remaining work by September. Following the final safety clearances, the much-anticipated metro project is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October or November.
