Bhopal aglow with 1111 lamps on Buddha Purnima

Bhopal, The capital city resonated with spiritual fervor on Monday, May 12th, as it celebrated the sacred birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. The preceding evening saw a poignant illumination across Bhopal’s Buddhist monasteries, where devotees lit lamps in unison, offering prayers for global peace, the eradication of terrorism, and the well-being of all.

At the serene Buddha Vihar in Chuna Bhatti, the spirit of interfaith harmony shone brightly as members of the Sarvadharma Sadbhavana Manch, revered religious leaders from various faiths, and esteemed senior citizens gathered to light 1111 lamps and candles. Amidst this confluence of faiths, Bhante Shakya Putra Sagar led the sacred Buddha Vandana. Devotees stood reverently beneath the towering 25-foot golden statue of Buddha, holding aloft glowing lamps, as Dhamma Deshana (Buddhist teachings) and Paritran Path (protective recitations) filled the air.

Across Bhopal, the Trisarana Bauddha Vihar (Kolar), Ashok Bauddha Vihar (Habibganj), Lumbini Bauddha Vihar (Panchsheel Nagar), Shravasti Bauddha Vihar, and other Buddhist centers were adorned with vibrant flowers, intricate rangoli designs, and radiant lights, creating an atmosphere of profound reverence. Throughout the day, these monasteries hosted special programs encompassing prayers, enlightening discourses, serene meditation sessions, and the ceremonial anointing of Buddha’s image.

Bhante Shakya Putra Sagar, Chairman of the Buddha Bhumi Sangh in Chuna Bhatti, emphasized the inclusive spirit of the celebration, noting the invitation extended to religious leaders of all faiths to foster mutual goodwill and harmony. He highlighted that the main program commenced on May 12th at 10:00 AM, culminating in a captivating cultural evening. This special event showcased the rich tapestry of Buddhist traditions through mesmerizing dances, devotional songs, and other artistic expressions, offering a glimpse into the profound heritage and diversity of Buddhist Dhamma and culture. Bhante Shakya Putra Sagar articulated that the overarching aim of this sacred observance was to disseminate the timeless values of peace, compassion, and universal brotherhood throughout society.
