Bhopal: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Bhopal, observed the 55th National Safety Day on 4 March with the theme “Involve, Educate and Empower People to Enhance Safety”, marking the commencement of a safety fortnight that continues until 17 March.
A series of activities were organised across the plant to reinforce employees’ commitment towards safety and health. Under the leadership of Executive Director Pradeep Kumar Upadhyay, initiatives included display of safety banners and flexes at key locations, on-the-spot recognition of safety-conscious workers, safety talks, fire-fighting demonstrations, and regular announcements at factory gates. Mock drills were also conducted to review disaster preparedness and standard operating procedures.
Emphasising the principle that prevention is better than cure, the programme focused on training and awareness. Classroom sessions were organised for 60 safety stewards, 40 contract workers, 40 crane operators and slingers, 30 canteen staff, 20 workers engaged in height-related tasks, and 10 electrical safety officers.
All activities were conducted under the aegis of the Health, Safety and Environment Engineering Department.
