Bhopal: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Bhopal, marked National Sports Day at its Sports Complex on 29 August, commemorating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The ceremony was led by Chief Guest Vipul Agrawal, General Manager (MM) and Chairman of the BHEL Sports Council, who, along with senior officials, paid floral tributes to Major Dhyan Chand’s portrait and administered the “Fit India” pledge to all participants.
The event featured a captivating demonstration by Taekwondo players, showcasing the spirit of sportsmanship. As part of the extended celebrations, sporting activities will be organised across BHEL Shiksha Mandal schools on 30 August, followed by a cycle rally from the BHEL Athletics Ground at 7 am on 31 August.
The programme was attended by Vivekanand from the Narcotics Control Bureau, CISF officials from Bhopal, representatives of various BHEL unions, employees, and sports enthusiasts. In his address, Vipul Agrawal highlighted that Major Dhyan Chand’s life remains a source of inspiration for future generations. TU Singh, General Manager (HR), praised Dhyan Chand’s extraordinary skills, which brought India glory on the global stage.
Vivekanand also emphasised the importance of drug-free living and informed participants about the Government of India’s free 24×7 helpline number – 1933. The event concluded with the Chief Guest flagging off men’s and women’s races, adding vibrancy to the celebration.
