Bhopal: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a major contract from Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL), a joint venture of BHEL and Coal India Limited (CIL), for the coal gasification and raw syngas cleaning package of the Coal-to-2000 TPD Ammonium Nitrate project at Jharsuguda in Odisha.

The contract covers engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and performance guarantee of coal gasification and raw syngas cleaning facilities, which form the core process units of the integrated chemical complex. The scope of work includes supply and installation of the gasifier and associated auxiliaries, a steam generation plant, air separation unit, coal and ash handling systems, and cooling tower facilities.

Notably, the project will deploy BHEL’s indigenously developed Pressurised Fluidised Bed Gasification (PFBG) technology. This will mark the first commercial-scale application of the technology, reinforcing BHEL’s role in advancing indigenous capabilities in clean coal and chemical production technologies.
