Bengaluru, July 9 (UNI) Bharti Airtel has partnered with Ericsson to bolster its Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services in India by deploying Ericsson’s advanced core network portfolio. This strategic deployment aims to enhance Airtel’s core network capability and capacity, thereby significantly improving user experience for Airtel FWA subscribers.
Under the agreement, Ericsson will introduce a new core platform offering higher capacity in a reduced physical footprint, while optimising total cost of ownership. This deployment builds upon the previously announced dual-mode 5G Core solution deal between the two companies, which laid the foundation for Airtel’s journey towards 5G Standalone (SA) infrastructure.
Randeep Sekhon, Chief Technology Officer of Bharti Airtel, said the deployment marks a foundational enhancement in network quality and reliability. “Ericsson’s innovative Packet Core architecture will enable critical improvements in performance and seamless connectivity, especially under peak demand,” he said. “This rollout reinforces the strength of our enduring partnership with Ericsson in delivering customer-centric innovation.”
Echoing this, Andres Vicente, Head of Market Area Southeast Asia, Oceania and India, Ericsson, said: “We are proud to support Airtel’s next wave of 5G monetization through FWA. Ericsson’s Local Packet Gateway (LPG) is built for performance and scalability—an ideal fit for Airtel’s FWA ambitions. Beyond technology, this collaboration supports inclusive digital transformation and aims to bridge India’s digital divide.”
The agreement deepens a partnership that spans more than 25 years and covers multiple generations of mobile technology. Through this latest initiative, Ericsson and Bharti Airtel have reiterated their shared vision to power India’s digital future.
