London, July 10 (UNI) Former Indian cricket star Yuvraj Singh delivered a stirring tribute to Bharat Army- the global fan group that has supported ‘Team India’ through every high and lows.
“I love Bharat Army. Bharat Army has been standing behind Indian cricket since I started playing for India for the first time,” said Yuvraj at an event in the UK.
“When everyone left in 2002, Bharat Army was still there. Every time I came onto the field, Bharat Army sang a song for me that is etched in my heart forever. I will never forget what Bharat Army does for Indian cricket.”
Known for his six-sixes, World Cup heroics, and unmatched grit, Yuvraj’s heartfelt words were a testament to the emotional bond between players and the fans who never stop believing. His nostalgic recollection drew loud cheers from attendees, many of whom have been part of Bharat Army’s enduring presence in stadiums worldwide.
But the evening, wasn’t just about cricket. Yuvraj also highlighted his life’s second innings — the YouWeCan Foundation, launched in 2013 following his successful battle with cancer. The touring Indian test squad, led by newly-appointed skipper Shubman Gill was also in attendance, before the crucial third test at The Lords against England.
“YouWeCan was inspired by my journey, and all just by a lot of compassion, where we belong after cancer,” he said. “We work with many children from below the poverty line for their treatment and education. We work with a lot of women suffering from breast cancer.”
The Foundation is currently seeking to raise GBP 1 million to fund vital cancer care and educational support for underprivileged families back home in India.
